Financial Management In The Home (2)

Christian Family » Family Matters » September, 2013

Dear Reader,

You are welcome to this glorious week of another exciting edition. I believe you enjoyed this column last week? Your home will continue to experience a positive transformation, in Jesus' name!

One of the most important lessons we learnt last week is that, trust is the key word in family finance. Husband and wife must trust each other enough, to put their money together and be prudent in spending it.  Today, I will be examining the aspect of Giving.

Giving is the practical expression of love. The Bible says:  Love is...never...selfish...  (1 Corinthians 13:5 (TLB).   God so loved the world, He gave.  He demonstrated His love for man by taking the initiative and giving us His Son, even when no man understood what He was doing and could not say, "Thank you". It was in His selfless giving that the world was won. If man and wife will learn to prefer each other in love, consider and think of ways to bless the other, family life will be so much sweeter.

God is a giving God.  Giving is godlike. If we claim to be God's children, you must emulate Him in all things.  The Word of God says:  Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God (1 John 4:7).

Giving gifts to one another spices up the marriage. One of the ways a husband should express his love for his wife is by giving.  A husband should willingly and joyfully give gifts to his wife.  How much is given is not the issue.  He should rather accept his responsibility, by joyfully giving his wife gifts. That is what counts. The wife can take the initiative to surprise her husband with thoughtful little gifts. If it did wonders for you during your courtship days, it will do you no harm to carry the habit over into marriage.

Giving To God

The Bible declares that two is better than one. You can "better" your giving to the Lord by giving as a family, thus making better your receiving. The Word of God says in Luke 6:38: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.  You must encourage each other to sow seeds. Though hard times have come upon the earth, you will be exempted as you purpose to keep sowing into the Kingdom.

To be distinguished financially, you have the responsibility as a family, to walk in the covenant.  The quality of your covenant walk with God determines how financially buoyant you will ever be.  As a family, ensure your tithe is paid, either separately as husband, wife and children or together as a family.  Your tithe is an acknowledgement and recognition that God is the source of all the money that comes to you, in the first place.

Your tithe is also your spiritual insurance of all your income against all devourers. Give offerings according to your size also.  Don't rob God in your offerings.  Ensure that your children also give offerings.  It is wisdom to sow to the Kingdom, even when you need every penny. There is a portion to eat and a portion to sow.  The truth is, there is seed in every income that gets into your hands as husband and wife.  Do not eat your seed with your harvest because if you eat your seed today, you may beg tomorrow. You will not beg in Jesus' Name. The Word of God says: There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.  The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself  (Proverbs 11:24-25).  Be consistent and diligent in your giving and before you know it, you shall be financially distinguished.

Giving is the practical expression of love. God so loved the world, He gave.  He demonstrated His love for man by taking the initiative and giving us His Son.  All He expects you to do is to accept this gift of love, by you giving your life to Him and be born again.

To get born again, you have to confess your sins and accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour.  If you are ready for this new birth experience, please say this simple prayer with me, in faith: Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I believe You died and rose again for my sake. Forgive me of my sins, take over my life, make me Your child and let Your peace reign over my life. Thank you for saving me.  Now I know I am born again.

Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary. All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus' Name!
